Security + Course
This is an 8 week course that will meet for 2.5 hours 2 days a week.
This course teaches students, through lectures, discussions, demonstrations, textbook exercises, and classroom labs, the skills and knowledge necessary to help prepare them to take the Security+ certification exam administered by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA). The Security+ certification program covers Security concepts such as authentication, communications security, cryptography, key management, web security and operational security. It also introduces the underlying concepts of security topologies, vulnerability, risk and controls. It provides a deeper dive into the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model and the protocols that operate at the various model layers. Passing the Security+ certification exam means that a student possesses the basic knowledge and skills needed to work as an Information Technology Security professional.
This course is intended for people who aspire to careers as security analyst and who want an objective assessment of their skills and certification of their accomplishments. The audience for this book ranges from people with experience in networking.
There are no official prerequisites for taking the CompTIA Network+ certification exam, but it is helpful for students to have the following knowledge and skills prior to starting the course. In some cases, it may be possible for a student to acquire this knowledge and these skills through additional study during the course.
- Basic knowledge of Networking and Systems architecture, such as the topics covered on the CompTIA Network+ certification exam
- Knowledge of the concepts of networking technology
- Experience with routers, switches, servers, LAN and WAN technologies, and network administration.
